Peek inside a restored 1950s camper – a vintage abode sprinkled with fresh elegance

When it comes to the history of the American travel trailer, there are a few classic icons that cannot be forgotten, such as the Airstream or the Spartan trailer. It's hard not to look back on their elegant, streamlined designs and not be impressed by the quality and the craftsmanship of vehicles that are often over 40 years old. Another leader in travel trailer innovation was the Schult Trailer Company which began production in the 1930s and continues today under the name of Schult Homes.
Schult was a trailer of many "firsts" including the first fully steel frame. The interiors were similar to other models of the time period in the sense that they were decked out in beautiful warm woods and small detail. Because of how sturdy and well-crafted the trailers are, they make an ideal shell for a renovation or simply a restoration. Barbara and Ed Haddaway realized this and decided to bring their 1950s Schult travel trailer back to life. Luckily, they've put it up for rent on Airbnb, so you can see for yourself.

Barb and Ed did such a good job on all of the restoring and refinishing that when you are inside this trailer, it is hard to tell you are in 2016 at all. We love the modern elements that they incorporated such as the midcentury futon and bent plywood chairs.
The kitchen is where it gets really fun. While you might have all the modern comforts you are used to here, all of the appliances have a vintage flair.
Even this coffee pot/toaster oven combination matches the paint color of the Schult's exterior.
While you get cozy in bed, don't forget to look closely at the subtle curves of the walls, the joints of the cabinetry, and the textures of the wood. It really is all about the details.
