1956 Century travel trailer goes from 'lost cause' to 'glamping' caravan

Sarah Lemp defines herself as a "vintage camper owner, musician, 2nd generation homeschooling mom, and adventure seeker," among other identifiers on her Instagram
Based on these adjectives, it could be said that Lemp made a self-portrait when she bought and refurbished a vintage trailer.

"Gidget the Vintage Trailer" is just one of the many spectacular projects Lemp has tackled and documented on her blog, All Things With Purpose
On her blog, Lemp tells the tale of purchasing a trailer so run down, Lemp's own mother, upon seeing the trailer, said she "wouldn't have paid 2 cents for (it)."
Despite her mother's disbelief, and the shameful looks she received from her father and father-in-love, Lemp turned the "lost cause" mobile home into a glorious, one-of-a-kind trailer, perfect for "glamping," or glamorous camping, as defined by glamping.com.
"We faced so many road blocks and what we thought were dead ends," writes Lemp on her blog. "But in the end... I think you know how it turned out!"
Before pictures of the trailer on Lemp's blog make the luxurious vehicle seen on Lemp's Instagram, virtually unrecognizable. The trailer was a steal at $1,700, but was in need of serious repair. The frame was rusted, holes punctuated the ceiling, the door was closed with duct tape and the window was patched with cardboard. Needless to say, this was no weekend DIY project.
The exterior of the vintage trailer is painted with Rustoleum Oil Based Enamel in aluminum finish on top and Behr Latex Exterior for bare aluminum on the bottom, according to All Things With Purpose. Lemp chose the aluminum finish paint for a polished shine.
"I'm happy with the results and both colors have held up well!" Lemp writes on her blog.

Lemp shares the secret to her fabulous metal backsplash on her blog. A bit of an optical illusion, the backsplash is simply vinyl and can be cut with scissors. A similar backsplash can be purchased on Amazon for only $19.95.
"It was much cheaper than actual metal and looks great," Lemp says.

Lemp bought the antler cabinet pulls at Anthropologie. She recommends painting more plain handles, such as these found on Amazon, in gold or brass for a similar look.

Lemp replaced the original oven with a mini fridge and microwave. She prefers to cook in an electric skillet, in the microwave, or over a fire or grill outdoors.
