See how a family of 5 traded the suburbs for a renovated trailer – the décor is a beauty

Suburban life isn't for everyone. Living at the end of the cul-de-sac, forking over the money on a mortgage, complying with the demands of neighborhood associations: isn't there something more to life? This family sure thought so. Meet the Calhouns, also known as the Suburban Pilgrims: A family of five that ditched their life in suburbia to embark on a journey that would drastically alter everything as they knew it.
The family was convinced that there was more to life than what they experienced in the suburbs. Rather than live under the weight of loans, credit cards, and mortgages, they wanted to feel the freedom of having less "stuff" and more opportunities. Living small seemed like the perfect solution. Why drop everything to move into a travel trailer full-time? Jason Calhoun has a simple answer: "Because we were born this way." After recognizing the inherent nomadic, adventure-seeking qualities he shared with his wife, they decided it was time to take action. It was time to unlock new perspectives, pursue passions, and discover what it truly means to live life to the fullest.

But before they could hit the road, they needed to completely remodel their travel trailer so that their new home actually felt like home, met their needs, and reflected their individuality.
A lot of work was needed, and no one ever said a complete change in lifestyle would be easy...
...but the Calhouns make it seem effortless. With a simple paint job, some eye-popping color and brand new floors, their home on wheels was well underway.
They ripped out all of the typical camper furniture that was originally installed in their home including the dinette and the sofa and replaced it with comfortable furnishings that better suit their family's needs.
After ridding their home of all the outdated surfaces and furnishings, they were left with a wonderfully cozy mobile dwelling fitting for their nomadic spirits.
The family even captured live footage of the whole renovation process so that they could share it with their beloved followers of their blog and YouTube accounts. But they don't want to stop there...
As a filmmaker, traveler, and father, Jason Calhoun wants to keep sharing his family's experiences with others. That is the reason why he has begun working on a feature-length documentary centered around the RV lifestyle.
By opening up the world of RV living to the public, he wants to show how moving into a travel trailer has helped him and many others create a life filled with purpose and meaning.
"The word 'community' means more than occasionally waving at the family next door," Calhoun writes. "It means more than buying too much crap to keep up with the neighbors; more than not spending enough time with our kids to keep up with social media. It means being intentional about discovering what quality of life we want to be a part of, and raise our children in."
